Confined Space Training Alaska

CONFINED SPACE TRAINING ALASKA

Federal and State OSHA confined space entry standards for general industry (1910.146) and construction (1926 Subpart AA) require privately-owned businesses, non-profit organizations, and affected governmental organizations in Alaska to implement a comprehensive confined space entry program for their employees who are involved in confined space entry work. A key element of that program is providing confined space training for all affected workers involved in confined space work. This includes all confined space entrants, attendants, and entry supervisors at general industry and construction work sites with permit-required confined spaces, as well as the competent person at construction sites.

Have a highly qualified instructor conduct an on site confined space training class for your group of employees in Alaska. The confined space training can be based on the OSHA 1910.146 general industry standards for entering permit-required confined spaces, or the newer OSHA 1926 Subpart AA confined spaces for construction standards. This service is available to all employers located anywhere in Alaska.

Who Needs Confined Space Training in Alaska

Under 29 CFR 1926.1207(a), employers must provide training at no cost to each employee whose work is regulated by the confined space standards and ensure that the employee possesses the understanding, knowledge, and skills necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties. This includes all confined space entrants, attendants, and entry supervisors at general industry and construction work sites with permit-required confined spaces. For construction sites, a competent person must also be trained to identify confined spaces and determine which are permit-required spaces. Each role has distinct responsibilities: entrants need to recognize hazards and use required equipment, attendants monitor and communicate with entrants, and entry supervisors oversee entry operations.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you conduct confined space training at our facility in Alaska?
Yes. We can arrange an on-site class for your employees at your facility anywhere in Alaska. When you request a proposal, tell us how many employees need training, what work they perform, which roles they fill, and whether the work is general industry or construction. If you have particular tanks, pits, manholes, or other spaces you want discussed, let us know so we can propose a class that fits your crew's work.
Who regulates confined space entry requirements for employers in Alaska?
Alaska operates an OSHA-approved State Plan covering most private sector workers and all state and local government workers. Federal and State OSHA confined space entry standards for general industry (1910.146) and construction (1926 Subpart AA) apply to privately-owned businesses, non-profit organizations, and affected governmental organizations in Alaska. These standards require employers to implement a comprehensive confined space entry program and provide training for all affected workers.
What training documentation must employers maintain for confined space entry in Alaska?
Under 29 CFR 1926.1207(d), employers performing construction work must maintain training records showing that training has been accomplished. The training records must contain each employee's name, the name of the trainers, and the dates of training. The documentation must be available for inspection by employees and their authorized representatives for the period of time the employee is employed by that employer. Similar documentation requirements apply to general industry work under 29 CFR 1910.146(g)(4).
Does OSHA require confined space refresher training every year?
OSHA's general industry and construction confined space rules do not set a blanket annual refresher schedule for every entry team member. Training is required before employees first perform covered duties, and additional training is required when assigned duties or relevant procedures change or when there is reason to believe employees lack the necessary knowledge or skills. Your employer may set a more frequent schedule based on its work and procedures.
